“Know yourself” is a maxim that applies as much to writing as other areas of your life. That includes asking yourself honestly if your writing, to quote Franklin, is worth reading.
Quality writing counts, not least in the business world. Brian Clark has a great post at Copyblogger applying the wisdom of Benjamin Franklin to modern day marketing needs. He reminds us that ‘writing worth reading’ is crucial to marketing:
The key to online marketing is content, and the ability to write well provides any professional or business owner with an unfair advantage
There’s no definitive answer on what writing worth reading looks like – but it includes well-written copy. A good story. A
compelling argument. An authentic voice. Powerful ideas.
Don’t worry if that doesn’t sound like you – yet. For one you can learn how to improve your writing. Alternatively you can get someone else to do the writing for you – to tell your story. Then ‘all’ you need to do is ensure there’s a great story to tell.
Coming back to Brian Clark:
… simply doing or providing something remarkable allows other media-empowered people to do the writing and spread the word for you.
And coming back to Franklin:
“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.”
