Mike Sansone at Converstations, one of my all-time favourite blogs, is laid up unwell. He’s been encouraging his readers meantime to ‘help themselves’ to what’s on offer in the back pages of his blog: an invitation to explore the archives.
I found some great pieces of advice there for anyone who’s writing a blog (me included). I’m sharing the links here to encourage you all to go and visit Mike’s site (keeping his visitor numbers up while he’s not well), to explore these posts and to see what other gems you find as you browse through the archives…
Here’s a selection of my favourites:
What’s on your blog editorial calendar? Using a calendar to help you get into a blogging rhythm, great for keeping on top of blogger’s block
An hour in the life: my blogging schedule Writing to time (an hour tops for blogging), and using comments as a warm up
Do you sound like your blog? Tips on writing for a blog writing that sounds, well, converstational…
Which arm are you blogging with? I found this one early doors and it was a real light-bulb moment for me. Don’t sit on your own writing great stuff. You’ll get tired and demotivated on your own. The key is to:
read other blogs, link to other blogs, comment on other blogs – or you’ll end up with a dead blog.
The battles hymn of the blogger: poetry (yes, poetry!) for the days when blogging is getting you down
Do let me know what other great bits of advice you uncover in the archive – I know there’s loads in there, just waiting for you…
Meantime Mike, all best wishes and I hope you get well soon.

Thanks for the links and advice.

Hi ‘CoMeDy KiNg’, thanks for the info on the custom sign generator – it’s always good to find new resources to brighten up our articles (which makes me think of a whole other conversation about the relationship between words and pictures and the function of each, but I’ll save that for another day)
