Working with the ingredients of confident writing

by Joanna on July 20, 2007

What are the ingredients of confident writing?  Well, for me, confident writing means writing with authenticity, clarity, connection, curiosity, impact, integrity, power, purpose, respect, responsibility, simplicity, and spirit. (You can read more about them here, or check the links on the sidebar.)

Of course there are many other things that go into confident writing – fun, passion, courage, honesty, accuracy, plain English, writing with all your senses – and they all count.  But for me these seem like the most important.

We’ll look at these ingredients when we start working together.  I use them as an analytical tool when I’m providing feedback or identifying learning points, but my guess is that you’ll also have a strong leaning towards one or two of them.  A gut reaction maybe.

Words that you’re drawn to – because you know those are just the ingredients that you want to add to your writing – whether that’s to get you motivated, to feel more confident, to bring your writing back to life – or your life back to your writing…

I think that the words there that reach out to me are: Power, purpose, fun and passion.
