Are you proud to be a word nerd?

20 August, 2007 Posted by Joanna As Snippets

Proudwordnerd_2Are you proud to be a word nerd?  I know I am.

Brad Shorr at Word Sell Inc defines a word nerd as someone who:

  • enjoys learning new words
  • when confronted by an unfamiliar word while reading, looks up the definition
  • may keep a list of favorite words
  • is fascinated by the nuances of language, especially the history of words and the shades of difference in meaning between similar words.

If that sounds like you, why not head over to Brad’s site and pick up one of these stylish badges to wear (with pride) on your own site.  You’ll also find a link there to his word nerd challenges (I had suggested that we should only be allowed to wear the badge when we hit a certain score but I was - sensibly - over-ruled… guess I was taking word nerdiness just a bit too far!)

Hi Joanna, thanks for the mention! Your idea of scoring was a good one (I’m not sure you can ever take word nerdiness too far). I actually looked into it and even thought about setting up an online test program. Seemed like a little more complexity than I can handle at the moment. More word quizzes coming, however.

Brad, I have a feeling we should stop while we’re ahead! (Of course I might just be saying that ‘cos I’m nervous of not doing so well in the tests…)

Thanks again for producing the badge - one of the many great features on your snazzy new site

Joanna
