Learning to change the world
I don’t know if it’s the shift from summer to autumn but there’s a feeling of change in the air. September looks like being a big month for learning to change… and changing to learn…
First off there’s a special challenge from Robert Hruzek at Middle Zone Musings. It’s a writing project with a difference because this time we have to change something too.
Your challenge, should you decide to accept it, is to a) make a change (big or small, no matter – as long it gets you out of a comfort zone), then b) write about your experience (sure, you just started, but so what?)
There’s also going to be a celebration of learning at Joyful Jubilant Learning
in September as the learning community there (a group I’ve just joined) gears up to celebrate their first birthday. The theme for the learning fest will be “make a difference!”
JJL has become quite a global community in our first year, and we are eager to see how learners everywhere are dreaming about, and committing to make a difference for themselves, for their families, in their work’??s passions, as they volunteer in their neighborhoods, and as they plan to impact our world.
The invitation is to join in, to share the learning, to stand up and be counted. It’s easy to take part – just check out the invitation here. As they say:

Hi Joanna! Hey, it looks like September is shaping up to be the Month of Change, don’t you think? I can’t wait to see what happens!
And Joanna, allow me to help you toot your own horn here, for I think your September writing theme on authenticity fits into our efforts at Joyful Jubilant Learning and at Middle Zone Musings so well. A bit eerie in a wonderfully promising way, where the sum can definitely be greater than the individual parts.
You had asked us, in the post before this one, for “thoughts on what authentic writing means to you – not just the dictionary definition, but what changes (has changed) when we write from the heart,” and THAT kind of authenticity is needed for the change that truly does make a difference.
Authenticity is what sustains us for the long haul, because it is our truth, and as some wise person once said (wish I could remember who) the truth is so much easier to remember than a lie!
Robert, I certainly think so. It’s interesting how so many things are coming together…
Like you I think I hear Liz’s words echoing through my mind: we can change the world, just like that…

I share your sentiments that writing from the heart – or rather, as you might say, from our source – can give us the power to start to make a difference. I think this might well be the learning challenge that I explore at Joyful Jubilant Learning in September, and yes, I can see ways that these strands can come together serendipitously.
