Joanna,

This is so funny. I read about the first half of this post and marked it in my feed reader as one I wanted to come back and read again and then add to this week's link post. It wasn't until this morning that I realized you'd quoted Tamara in it! No wonder I thought it was such a useful article. ;-) Thanks for the link love.

@ Lisa I'm glad that you found this first part of the toolbox useful. I have to confess that I don't read out every blog post - I guess it's the nature of the medium - but I do for those that I want to take more care over, maybe because I'm saying something important or introducing a new idea. And it does make a difference.

@ Lillie I don't think I could have a round-up on editing without including you! You help us to understand the science and art of editing in a most helpful way.

Thank you for this wonderful toolbox! It would take me all day to gather up this plethora of great info, and here it is all in one place. Editing is so important in getting your point across clearly and concisely. I've never thought about reading a post aloud before publishing it on my blog, but that is an excellent idea. Thank you. I will bookmark this so that I can refer back to it, which I'm sure I will do again and again.

@ Robert - eschew is such a cool word isn't it? Seems a shame he's telling us to cut it out!

@ April - how good to hear from you! I hope to get to meet or at least talk to you sometime so that I get to check out if you write and talk the same... Now as for queen of the "..." - we should be able to dream up a new word for that :-)

@ Deb - thanks. You can expect some of your great material to feature in future episodes...

Great info Joanna.

I myself am a firm believer in the reading aloud and the plain english. I write like I talk...well maybe not as fast:) But the feel is the same...I am the Queen of the "..."

My simplest editor is my beloved spell check. I would look like an idiot without it and it amazes me how many people don't use it.

Yeah, that's a good one from Dustin! If it's the last thing we do, it's to eschew obfuscation!
