Writing with Freedom: a Theme for the Summer
It’s the 1st of July which means the start of the new Confident Writing theme: writing with freedom.
I’m not entirely sure where this one’s going to take us - which seems appropriate for a freestyle theme - but highlights will include:
- A quiz… a first here and something of an experiment… coming very soon
- News on a competition tied in with the writing workshops in Italy
- A photo-blogging version of a group writing project (in August, ie still planning it!)
- A round up of the powerful poems that ask purposeful questions
- Guest posts: from some well kent* faces and some new names
- Slower schedule to suit the summer months (a highlight for me, maybe for you too?)
- Sharing of words, thoughts and ideas about writing freely, the freedom to write, and what happens when the words run free
What am I missing here? What would you love to see featured in the next two months on writing with freedom?
I write here based on time-limited themes: monthly, six-weekly or, for freedom, covering the next two months (July and August)
To make sure you don’t miss a post do keep in touch: by RSS feed, by e-mail, or by weekly digest (a summary of headlines that goes to your inbox once a week)

I’m delighted to have discovered your blog, Joanna, just as you launch what promises to be an interesting theme- writing with freedom.
The idea of having freedom in all areas of life fascinates me- not least with respect to writing freely.
Real creativity comes when we allow our imagination to flow. I believe that self-editing is a skill best applied after, not before, we’ve given our ideas free reign.
Who knows if a story idea could work if we dismiss it because of a, b, or c reason without playing around with it first? Self censorship too early kills creativity.
I’m looking forward to all the upcoming, “free” goodies which lie in store!
Scott, I’m enjoying your contributions too. Very glad you found me.
I think there are times it’s good to let our imaginations run free - especially when we want to create something new…
Which is one of the reasons this theme is a little less structured than ‘purpose’… I’m interested to see what happens when things unfold!

Joanna -
I can’t wait to read the posts for this topic! I find that sometimes, I can write with freedom and it feels absolutely glorious. Other times, I feel encumbered by doubt and it feels like I have a robot controlling my fingers. No fun. I’m looking forward to reading your posts.

Hi Joanna, seems you have it all covered. I can’t wait for the great posts you’ve planned and for your guests’ work on this theme. I’ll stay tuned, hope everyone else does the same
Melissa, I know just what you mean. I hope we can come up with some material here that will keep it fun for you and others (and me!)
Alina, thanks

Joanna, I have gotten so much out of every series and I look forward to the freedom theme as well. I know this is a topic you will have a lot of fun with as you can allow your creativity to well run free.
I look forward to reading and learning.

Thanks Karen.
I was letting my creativity run free on Saturday - writing poems of all things! I’m not sure I’m ready to share the poems, but I’ll maybe reflect on something I’ve learned from the writing process
Thanks, as ever, for your encouragement and support
