Confident Writing turns two on Saturday.
Even though it’s Easter I couldn’t let the occasion go past without stopping to say thank you to everyone who reads, comments and contributes here.
I’m afraid there are now too many people commenting for me to thank individually, but I would like to say a huge thanks to the people who have been the most regular, loyal and supportive commenters at Confident Writing over the last two years.

I do appreciate everyone who reads here, including those of you who read quietly. Please do help yourselves to a virtual easter egg on me:-)
If you want to share a gift in return, here’s a small request:
Could you tell me what one thing you do, or have done differently as a result of reading the Confident Writing blog?
You can tell me more than one, of course! But I thought this might make it easier and more tempting for more of you to take part.
This is a selfish request, and I will use your comments as part of a testimonials page on the blog.
If you just want to pop by and say hello that will of course be perfectly fine
Have a wonderful long weekend. I’ll be here to reply to comments, but otherwise back blogging on Tuesday.

Congratulations, Joanna, and happy birthday to Confident Writing!
Thank you for the gorgeous Easter egg.
I don’t know that I can define one thing I do differently as a result of reading your blog. However, reading the blog definitely benefits me.
You always make me think and give me new perspectives. I’d never before considered that writing could be confident or not. Your slogan “Because our words count” makes me think about the importance of writing and words.

Happy Birthday Confident Writing! I’m new here (only arrived the last week or so!) but it has already given me something – something to look forward to: the next group writing project.
Wow, two years… that’s cool, and impressive – I’ve only been doing this for three and half months! Many happy returns – in every sense.

Happy Birthday to you!
It’s always a good feeling to recognise success. If you value the success of others it creates positive thinking and a ‘can do’ attitude in youself.
I recently started blogging on my business blog at ‘The Editor’s Notebook’ – it’s still under construction so pretty basic just now but it’s gradually getting there. Hoping to launch on Friday, 9th April.
As a newbie to the blogosphere I found lots of clear and precise tips of how to approach writing for the internet on your website, which was an invaluable tool on the journey to creating a blog.
Thank you for the virtual chocolate – so much healthier than the real thing.

Thank you indeed for the mentioning of my contribution. Greatly appreciated there. I look forward to many more anniversaries and milestones, Joanna.
Reading the Confident Writing blog was my key motivation to start my own blog, and the lessons here have indeed given me the confidence to write a blog that, although new, is already showing signs of becoming a success! Thank you Joanna!

Hi Joanna, Happy Birthday to your lovely Confident Writing.
I’m new, and although I don’t visit often, but I must say I have great fun chatting with you on Twitter. You’re a nice, generous person and I must thank you for the encouragement you’ve given from time to time. Bless you and wish you many more birthday to come for such an inspiring blog. Will visit more once I got my Plan A sorted out, soon. ^^

Joanna, I must confess that since the first day I visited Confident Writing, I’ve learned many useful knowledge from you. The even best thing is you surely have a big heart and always listened to your readers’ thoughts…
By the way, thanks for including my name in the list, as I don’t know what to say here, except many times of “thank you”!

Hi Joanna! Happy Blog Birthday Happy Easter! Reading Confident Writing has been very much like checking in daily with a writing coach. The biggest impact for me has been the way reading your words has changed my perspective and approach to writing. I have grown in my appreciation and application of the craft. I began reading writing books as a result of your recommendations and applying the learning. I stretched my writing muscles as you gently encouraged me through your words to play with style, rhythm, words, timing, headlines and more. Finally, you have had a tremendous impact on my view of community. I suppose it’s why each year on your blog birthday I am so excited. Breakthroughs seem to happen at this time of year as we celebrate your milestone. Thank you so much for all that you have done and continue to do. You really are one of the best sites for writers.

Wow, what a great lineup of folks here! Thanks for counting me in there with the best of ‘em, Joanna!
One thing I’ve learned from coming here so regularly is that my words do indeed count, and it’s important to choose them wisely – then send ‘em on their way into the world! Confidence is what you’re all about, and you’ve inspired me in many ways, drawing out the best there is within me. Thanks for the gently tugs – and occasionally, the outright kick in the, um, nether regions!
A big ol’ tip o’ the hat to ya, and a happy B-Birthday too!

Hi Joanna,
(and to Confident Writing, a Happy 2nd Birthday on Saturday!)
I’m a relative newbie but have learned a great deal in my short time here.
The thing I now do differently is think about the community that every blog post speaks to: Who are the people with an interest in the subject? What are their priorities? What joins us all together around this topic? and so on.
My posts have become much more relaxed, accessible and enjoyable to write as a result!
Here’s to more Happy Birthdays in the future!
Best Regards
Paul

Hi Joanna, Congratulations on your blog birthday! Your blog has been one of my favorite stops in the blogosphere from the very beginning. Besides being the launch pad for our friendship, your blog has inspired me to take my writing to a higher level, to experiment, to put more of myself in my work. Not only that, I’ve gotten to know many other bloggers whom I’ve come to treasure through conversations on these pages. Imagine what the next few years will bring!

All the best for many more years of Confident Writing!
Lillie thanks for being the first to greet me! Your support throughout the time I’ve been blogging has meant a lot to me. I know that the writing process is something you treat with a great deal of respect… as do I. Including the bit we see with the editor’s eye
Emma hi again – it’s so lovely to get to know new readers, especially people like you who are so friendly
I’d love it if you joined in a future project – and have just read your piece for Robert’s ‘adversity’ project. Wow.
Janette hello, good to meet you. I look forward to exploring your new blog. Thanks for the feedback – although I try not to write too much about blogging, I have learned a lot in the last 2 years, and try to pass it on as best I can
Matt how could I not mention all your comments?! I’m so glad to have helped you get your blog up and running – that’s the kind of feedback that gives me a huge buzz. Thanks
Ching Ya thanks so much for popping over from Twitter. I really enjoy talking to you on Twitter too, and I am wishing you all the best in your new, exciting journey
Ulla thanks for giving me a perfect quotable line, a broad smile, and a few tears
It has been my absolute pleasure.
Joely thanks! When I first started blogging I was puzzled by people celebrating blog birthdays, now it seems almost as significant as my ‘real’ bday!
Wilson you do say the loveliest things. Thank you, for all your support my friend
Jackie thanks for popping in! I do care, and I love having a blog that’s at a scale where I can engage with readers and see what they’re writing… makes the whole thing really motivating and interesting to me (not to mention being mildly addictive!)
Congratulations on the blog birthday, and have a great Easter.
Our recent connection through Confident Writing and Twitter has helped to change the way I view my writing. Through you I have begun to access a new community which has raised my motivation and self-belief. I’ve a long way to go yet, but am utterly convinced that you, Joanna, are key to my development in this area.
Thank you

Patricia thank you for those greetings! I like the emphasis on clarity… and listening. Most people don’t think about that one, but it’s so important isn’t it?
Karen really you do write the best comments… thank you, thank you
The way you and I have got to know each other… through one headline writing project… through to a deep friendship with shared moments of love, joy, sorrow… is more wonderful than I can say.
Robert well I wanted this list to be as inclusive as I could make it, but I know you, and you know, that there are a core gruop of people who have helped, encouraged, supported and contributed to the growth of this blog, and you are most certainly one of them. I love your feedback and the challenge to see if I can use your last line on my testimonials page! (Of course I will
Paul thanks for that thoughtful feedback – I’m glad your post writing has become more enjoyable to you… writing is so much fun when you feel that sense of connection and engagement, when you know that your words have the power to make a (positive) difference
Brad I feel like we’ve been travelling along on a similar journey with our blogging… and friendship. And like I said to Robert, your contributions, support and involvement have helped me to get to here… and to who knows where else after this
Gennaro yes, I didn’t really appreciate it when I started, but so many people are getting the chance to write through blogging, and to stretch and grow in their confidence as writers, never mind the topic of the blogs. It’s wonderful. Theme of the week is a nice idea… might borrow it back some time
Lori wow, now that feedback is a real keeper! Thank you so much.
Mig thank you for the greetings – hope you have a great holiday weekend too
Damien I like that summary… thanks for writing it in a way I can use it
Karen it does seem longer doesn’t it… I suppose because blogs are so much a part of who we are. Surely I’ve been doing this forever?
Thanks for your words… community building is very important to me, not least because I enjoy getting to know all my readers, and do genuinely care about what you all do. Finding friends who are there for you when it counts… well that really is the icing on the blogging cake
Valeria well when I was looking back at the comments and people who’d left them, I found I didn’t want to limit it to this year – the contributions in year 1 allowed me to do what I did in year 2. Silent readership is fine with me… where’d we be if we couldn’t read at least some blogs silently?!
Davina that’s a good question… I’d probably say it seems like both less, and more. In many ways it seems a lot more – I suppose because we pour so much of ourselves into our blogs. I’m very glad you feel part of the community here, that’s valuable feedback for me. Thanks
kathleen that’s great to hear! I’ve heard a few people mention the word ‘courage’… I feel a theme of courageous writing might just be on the cards later on this year
Thanks for the inspiration
Jan thank you my friend. If I have, it was the universe playing along for us
I’m doubly glad because I’ve loved getting to know you, and feel we’re going to be friends.
Happy Birthday, Confident Writing!
In reply to your question, Lori’s already answered for me. Confident Writing has taught me that writing isn’t just a job, nor is it a hobby, nor is it a skill to be used as and when I need it. Rather, it’s an intrinsic part of me, and something that I really shouldn’t try to deny.
Thank you, Confident Writing.

Happy Birthday, Confident Writing! I hope you live to see many more.
In my family, it’s how we say happy birthday to family and friends. So I think it’s appropriate. Confident Writing shares wonderful, helpful content. Also in friendly fashion, your blog has introduced to me, your fellow bloggers who offer a treasure trove of great content, too. The community you’ve created exudes warmth which is impressive by itself. And then there’s all the rest that you do.
The biggest personal gain that Confident Writing has given me is confidence. It’s a huge deal for me that I now click the publish buttons, the send buttons, and the submit buttons with much less hesitation than I once had. Basically, it’s not so much fear that keeps me from participating so much as time constraints.
That you include me in this list is more an honor than I can express. Thank you for this and for everything that you do through your writing.

Shari thank for that family greeting… that’s really special to me. I remember reading that poem about your brother and sister-in-law and the stretch that it takes to publish our poetry – it’s so deep, and personal isn’t it? I’m very happy to have played some small part in helping you to stretch and keep hitting that send button
Robyn I know, doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun ?
Thanks for sharing that line with me, that one is most definitely going on my testimonials page
Karen hello, and thank you
three answers.
1. Some of us work hard to understand that we are connecting with people, not with blogs. As a result, the first thing that came to mind in answering the question, “how has CW helped” was not about the blog, it was about you. You have reminded me more than once about paying attention to an element of my writing tone that has an effect different than I intend. And, as I reflect, I realize the effect is as much on me as on the reader.
2. That issue, related to confidence, then comes back to the blog. You are about writing with confidence. But you don’t stop with, “Be confident.” Your insight in breaking confidence into parts which then become monthly themes teaches us 1) how to analyze, 2) how to break desirable attributes into actionable pieces, and 3) how to talk together about those actions.
3. CW is unfailing gracious even as it is ruthlessly convicting.
Happy birthdays, friend.

I’m not sure I’ve done anything differently, as I’ve only just started this malarkey. But it’s been extremely useful to see how you relate to your readers and build/communicate with your community.
And that’s what it feels like, here. Your comments sections are more than just comments sections. They’re places to interact, like a civilised and useful forum! It’s tricky to achieve that, I reckon. And it’s part of what brings people back for more.

‘what one thing you do, or have done differently as a result of reading the Confident Writing blog?’
As you were my confident writing coach, it is difficult to separate reading your blog from the very kind suggestions and nudges you continue to send my way.
So choosing just the one thing, I would say that…
BJ (before Joanna) I stuttered, sputtered and hid.

And sometimes I fall flat. But not flat back.
But falling down and climbing back is a big part of learning. Yes?

I’ve learned so much from your blog and it has helped me in many ways with my writing. The one thing that comes to mind at the moment is numbered lists. You’re one of the first friends I made in the blogging world and I cherish all the help and support you’ve given me over the last year. You’ve kept me going at times where I thought I might give up. Happy belated blog birthday, Joanna!
So sorry I missed the festivities. I didn’t mean to ignore you, but blogging had to be put on hold for a time, since I was in the middle of dealing with a very intense situation in my own life when your post was written: my mom’s fierce, fast-moving battle with Alzheimer’s, which she lost on May 17th.
At the time your post was written, we were in the middle of getting a doctor’s diagnosis, and two days later I moved in with Mom as her 24/7 caregiver for the most intense five-week period of my life, as I did all I could for her in a hopeless situation. It’s been very sad, but I’ve had a great deal of support, for which I’m thankful.
Wanted to explain my absence at Confident Writing and my silence at Writer’s Notes, so you wouldn’t think I’ve been ignoring you (or my other WN readers).
Hope you’ve been well.
