Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment and leave feedback on my ‘blog birthday’ request.
The feedback was great, and there’s lots of powerful material that I can use for a testimonials page.
The exercise got me thinking about the feedback I’d love to give you if you asked… and also that maybe we should do this more often? Ask your readers for feedback that is. It might feel like a risk, but most people who read your work will be more than happy to take a few minutes to let you know why they continue to invest the time in reading and learning from what you write.
Anyway, the comments and good wishes made for a lovely background to a wonderful long weekend (we have a 4 day weekend for Easter here in Scotland). Not only that but the sun shone and the days were sweetly warm. I even managed to stay away from Twitter for a couple of days!
One of the things I want to do as this community theme draws to a close is to give something back to all of you.
By way of a ‘thanks’ I’m offering some free writing coaching sessions to members of the Confident Writing community – don’t worry, that doesn’t mean any more than that you’re a reader here
It’s a chance for you to find out a bit more about writing coaching and how it might work for you. It’s also an opportunity for you to talk through your writing project and work out what you need to do next to move it along.
You’ll find out more about working with me on this page, including the answers to a whole lot of frequently asked questions. (Including this one: you don’t need to be a writer to work with me.)
Here’s the introduction to my approach:
I help people to be more confident in their written work with a mixture of coaching, editing, and feedback on their writing.
I focus on helping people with non-fiction. In the main they’re not ‘writers’ but people who want to write, need to write as part of their job, or love writing and need some motivation and support to make a reality of a writing dream.
I can help you with:
- The creation of a book about your work, expertise or big idea
- Writing and developing your personal or professional blog
- Improving your written communication at work, and having confidence in what you write
If you’d like to take up this offer there are 5 x 30 minute coaching slots available before the end of April (before I head off to Sardinia for the writing retreat). One half hour slot per person.
The coaching is done by Skype (which is free and easy to download and use if you don’t already have it). Although I’m based in the UK I work with people all over the world and love the creative challenge of working my calendar around numerous time zones.
All you need to do is e-mail me to let me know you’re interested, with Community Coaching Offer in the e-mail header. My email address is joanna [@] confidentwriting.com
First come, first served.
Don’t be shy… What’s there to lose? If not now, when?
UPDATE: the slots are now filled, thanks for your interest everyone. I’ll see how this little experiment goes and will let you know as and when I’m offering some more
Work with Joanna and learn to express yourself with confidence. Online classes to free the inner writer. Get help writing the pages that you need for an effective presence on the web.

Hi Joanna, So generous (and characteristic) of you to offer your services at no charge – and it’s the right business approach, too. I do hope you continue soliciting feedback from the CW community. Not only do we have a great deal to share, you have a real knack for coaxing out ideas and then elegantly summarizing them.

Hi Joanna. This is a wonderful offer. Thanks for the opportunity. I’ve always been curious about writing coaching, plus it would be lovely to speak with a fellow blogger all the way over in Scotland. My email is on the way.

Hi Joanna,
What a great and generous offer! My writing has been a bit like a low battery these days, and I’d love a jump start from your many insights and writing wisdom. My email is also on its way.
Thank you!
Joanna, I really enjoyed reading all the wonderful comments from the community. Because of this community I have met so many wonderful people. Your gracious offer is so like you! It’s your birthday and you give us the presents! I will definitely need your help with my book and am looking forward to hiring your services. I also have some new projects on the burner and will need your expertise. I am so glad that you are sharing with us how you work so that we can not only use your services but spread the word to others. Everyone can benefit from writing coaching, as being able to effectively communicate is a skill that is helpful in every profession.

My email has already gone, but I want to publicly echo what others have said about your generosity, Joanna. I’ve only been a member of this community for a short while, yet the effect has been profound. My writing is more prolific and is developing. This after just the possibility of a trip to Sardinia next year, plus some lovely tweets and the odd email. What a privilege to be part of what you’ve built here.

Hi Joanna,
You are too considerate, I would say.
I love to avail this opportunity. Hope I’m not late! Anyway, I can assure you that I would be the most benefiting person, as am a novice in writing, who looks for opportunities to improve. Hope you will consider my email, which will be making its entry into your inbox as soon as I finish this comment.
Thank you!!

Brad you’re right, it is a business strategy as well as an offer… it’s one I feel good about, and it seems like an effective way to help spread the word about what I do. I will of course keep seeking feedback, but I’d encourage others to do the same… it made me think about the things I’d like to tell you all about what I learn.
Davina fantastic – I’m looking forward to talking to ou

Wilson, I’ve taken in 7 people just now, which is all I could manage in the time I have before I go to Sardinia. We’ll see how this experiment goes… but I’m sure I’ll be doing it again sometime before too long
