Scottish Sunshine

by Joanna on June 2, 2009

While I continue to take stock of my writing and blogging habits (yes, that’s what the theme of breathing space is for :-) ), summer has arrived in Scotland in all its glory.

Given that it might only last for a few days, it’s impossible not to try and soak up as much of it as you can.  Taking the time to stop, read, watch, breathe, think is all part of the creative process anyway, isn’t it? ;-)

I had a sandwich lunch yesterday at Lyle Hill, in Gourock, near the Free French memorial.  The views over the river on this calm, sunny day, the 1st of June, were simply stunning.  And too good not to share.

Oh these are beautiful! The sea, the sea, how I miss it… I grew up in Cornwall and spent most of my childhood summers on sandy beaches, the winters on windswept granite cliffs. My body aches for them.

Looks like you’ve had an amazing lunch! With weather and views like those, how can you ever spend one second inside? I’ll have to join you on such a lunch soon!

Hi everyone – glad you liked the photos!

@Emma – I know what you mean – when I was in Edinburgh the yearning to come west was so strong I eventually had to give in to it. It’s not just the sea for me, it’s something to do with the quality of light. It does get you doesn’t it?

@Brad, yes indeed. A good day in Scotland is the best day anywhere on earth (so we like to think anyway :-) )

@Lori, glad you like the pictures. Don’t you have mountains to compensate though?

@Ulla, I know, it was quite a treat!

@Alina, when it’s like this it’s a big challenge to stay inside. Partly because we know it’s only going to last for a few days, so you have to make the most of it.

@Matt, hello and welcome. The greens (and blues) are fabulous aren’t they?

@Wilson, thanks for your one word :-)

@Carla, I hope you manage it too, and manage to squeeze a trip to Scotland in

Hey Joanna,

Beautiful shots, very calming :)

Ireland came alive in the last week too, glistening in the sunlight, smiles as contagious as laughter. We put up with clouds for so long, it’s like a rebirth when the big yellow masseuse comes to visit.

Breathing spaces… I fell willingly into these photos from you…..they stretch possibilities and eagerness to frolic out just like the months of summer do.

Wow.. Gorgeous deep breaths of wonder. Thank you.

@ Conor, glad you like the shots, and that you got the good weather too. Hey, it sounds like it’s made you come over all poetic ;-)

@ Janice…. your words make me slow down and breathe too, thanks
