Just a brief intermission announcement to let you know that the list of finalists in the 4th Annual Top 10 Blogs for Writers has just been published by Michael Stelzner at Writing White Papers.

To qualify as a finalist a blog had to be nominated more than once.

The top 10 will be selected based on:

Quality of posts: A qualitative analysis of the content of posts will be examined. Educational and discussion-spurring posts are more valuable than self-promotional posts. (55% of decision)

Frequency of posts: Blogs that write multiple posts per week will score higher. This is a sign of the blog’s commitment to blogging. (15%)

Reader involvement: Blogs that have regular comments from readers are another sign of a healthy blog. In addition, the numbers of nominations for a specific blog play a part in this. (15%)

Technorati.com Ranking: The number of other blogs that link to the blog shows the value of the content. (15%)

Thanks to everyone who nominated Confident Writing – I was really moved to read the reasons you gave for nominating the blog. Thank you :-)

Congrats and it’s very nice to join you on the list. Have to say though, those criteria are a bit of a nonsense. I don’t mind it being a subjective choice at all (first bullet), but the rest sound like an excuse to make sure Copyblogger comes in first.

I genuinely hope Confident Writing pips them to the post – go on Joanna!

Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement – and for the nominations you made at the time. I really appreciate it :-)

Cath thanks – it’s good to see you back and aroun

Iain interesting reflection on the criteria – I suspect it comes from a previous time when things like Technorati figured higher in ranking systems (no-one ever seems to mention them any more). Possibly the same point about frequency of posting – regular posting was previously deemed to a must but the thinking on this seems to have shifted over the last year or so.

Anyway, having beaten the mighty Copyblogger in another competition once upon a time… ;-) I’m up for the challenge

Good luck to you too – great to see Write for Your Life on the list
