Paying Attention to Possibility
Phew!
I’m all blogged out. Between the group writing project and stretching my brain around what writing makes possible, I’m taking it easy today and sharing some quotes on creativity, paying attention, and possibility.
Plus I believe it’s a long weekend for those of you in the U.S…. maybe I’ll take the extra day and return on Tuesday too.
If you want to keep involved meantime, don’t forget the invitation to answer this question in 30 words or less:
How Does Writing Help to Make Things Possible?
Now for the quotes:
What crannies of untouched perception can you explore? What autumn was it that the moon entered your life? When was it that you picked blueberries at their quintessential moment? How long did you wait for your first true bike? Who are your angels? What are you thinking of? Not thinking of? What are you looking at? Not looking at? Writing can give you confidence, can train you to wake up.
Natalie Goldberg, Writing Down the Bones
I have an opportunity to be surprised, moved, and changed by the endless unexpected variables that emerge in familiar routines. I believe that is what poetry demands of us: a willingness to savor mystery instead of stampeding toward certainty. When we pay careful attention to the potential of the extraordinary, its blossoms will burst through our ordinary, everyday lives.
Sage Cohen, Writing the Life Poetic
It is a known condition that when you begin to pay attention to something you’ve never really looked at before you will begin to see it everywhere. You eventually begin to feel as if the thing is out to find you, instead of the other way around.
Keri Smith, How to Be an Explorer of the World
Don’t know about you, but I’m going to keep looking for possibility
Have great weekend everyone.

Nice one Joanna…. “A well tendered small pie,” I would call this post

I really enjoy the questions you pose. May I add several others to stoke the embers of a writer’s passion:
What morning dew caught the sparkle of the rising sun and the bright potential of a new day?
How did your pet rekindle the wonder of the present moment?
Whose smile gave you hope for wondrous paths?
Enjoying your posts.
