Gosh it’s hard for me to stop blogging on a theme! This really is the last one… but I couldn’t resist sharing it.
It’s from the chapter called Setting Out on the Journey, from The Sufi Book of Life
The reason we exist – and the reason to begin any journey – is to bring out our full humanity, the unique flavour that we alone can offer to the universe’s still-cooking stew.
I just love that bit about the still-cooking stew… don’t you?
Yeah, that is pretty much my life philosophy. And to leave a good aftertaste. I’m working on it…

Oh I love that philosophy. I say our lives are gifts to us, and our job is to become. Fully. Completely grow into who we are created to be — filling a purpose that is unique to us alone. (And all that entails.) I like the image of ‘still-cooking’ stew.
What a unique way to look at the meaning of life. I like it!
It seems as if everything I read these days is telling me to write more … more … more. Your message today is another confirmation.
I think I want to be a bay leaf
I love that Joanna, thanks for sharing it: a wonderful reminder of how different we are, but also how each individual, each component, adds something unique to the overall result.
It also reminds me of something about journeys from Ursula Le Guin’s novel The Dispossessed (which I’ve loved for a long time):
It was joy they were both after – the completeness of being. If you evade suffering you also evade the chance of joy. Pleasure you may get, or pleasures, but you will not be fulfilled. You will not know what it is like to come home.
Hi Joanna .. we can all make a difference – the Universe is here for us, and it’s up to us what we do with it …
Good to be reminded that we actually need to make things happen and improve our world – it’s a wonderful place.

Joanna,

Perfectly apt. Adventure is defined by not knowing the outcome…there.. feel all that space….we just step into it….if we are lucky, we have some very good companions to take it all in with us.

The world is full of others who are eager to tell you what you should do. Each person’s journey and mission is unique. And somehow you have to follow yours. And ignore other people advise. And if you are married (or have a significant other) your journey is a balancing act. Somehow you have to remain true to yourself. That is not an easy task. And it is a little easier if chose your partner well. Then one and one become three. There is no easy way.
