Words want to be free. Oh, you can make up all kinds of excuses as to why you should wait. You can smother your words in an excess of writing so people can’t hear what you’re really trying to say. You can drape your words in cloaks of apology, explicit, implied. You can tell yourself you’re not good enough. You can take comfort that you’ll never be ‘a writer’, and stop. But still: the words want to be free.
I know you might not be ready, but still: it’s time. Time to drop the apologies and put down the cloaks. Time to stop stopping yourself from starting. Time to let your words be good enough: imperfect, lifeworthy, brilliant, true.
Your words want to be free. It’s time.
